3rd class knitting project

We had such fun knitting during September and October! We've learned how to cast on stitches, do the knit stitch and purl stitch, reduce stitches and cast off, sew up our knitting to create a little hat and decorate with home-made bobbles! With our parents and grandparents we made 86 hats for smoothie bottles which we sent off to 'Innocent Smoothies'. The hats will sit on the smoothie bottles in shops across Ireland this November. For every behatted bottle sold 'Innocent Smoothies' will give 25c to Age Action Ireland. So we have raised €21.50 to help keep older people warm in Winter!
Thank you so, so much to the wonderful parents and grannies who came in every week to join our knitting sessions and help us learn the stitches. We couldn't have managed without you all and we really enjoyed our time together.

Last year the nation got knitting for the innocent big knit campaign. A whopping 80,000 little hats were knit by generous people all over Ireland, raising €20,000 and much needed awareness for Age Action Ireland. With such a harsh winter last year, the funds were put to great use to ensure that older people in Ireland stayed well and warm.

It's a sad fact that every year in Ireland around 2,000 people over the age of 65 die from cold related conditions - which is where your knitted goods come in. All monies raised from the innocent Big Knit this year will go towards supporting Age Action to help keep older people in Ireland warm.

Here are some of our hats!
We hope they make you smile :)
