Afternoon Tea Party with Mrs. Sterritt

One afternoon shortly after 3 o'clock near the end of term strange events began to occur. Staff declined to leave the premises and instead began to congregate in the Learning Support Room, which had taken on a most unusual appearance! Magically transformed by hard-working elves, strung with bunting and balloons and with gentle music playing in the background, a very wide, long table ran the width of the room, draped in a crisp white tablecloth and adorned with flowers, pretty teapots and candles.... and cakes! Many, many delicious cakes, buns, pretty cupcakes, scones, delicate cucumber sandwiches and smoked salmon nibbles and scrumptious desserts lay beautifully displayed on the long table and covered the other side table. The beautiful chair at the end of the table gave the clue that a special guest was expected, and while she was invited to join us the guests became even more glamourous (if that was possible!) by donning the most spectacular hats! Evidently this was an occasion that called for the utmost elegance, taste and charm, as befitted the guest of honour, Mrs. M. Sterritt, who arrived to enjoy the lovely surprise. Elaine, who had designed the elegant and witty invitations and was wearing a most fetching hat herself, welcomed Mrs. Sterritt and brought her to her seat where she was presented with a tasteful tiara and feather boa as a mark of our esteem. Everyone enjoyed the delicious repast and complimented the skill of the many chefs and bakers (Masterchef's loss is Ballyraine N.S.'s gain!). The event was happy but poignant, as everyone reflected on the forthcoming loss of their much valued and respected friend, mentor and colleague. Mrs. Sterritt was surprised and delighted when presented with a beautiful bouquet and candle-lit cake, and everyone especially enjoyed the poem in Mrs. Sterritt's honour composed by our fab secretary, Heather. Truly an occasion to remember.

The gentlemen are opting for a rustic look!

   You're a wonder, Mr. Barnes!
