In 5th Class we have been busy learning about the European Union
and the countries involved. We decided that we would like to find
out a little more about each of the 27 countries in the European
Union. We decided that each child would take a different country
to research and complete their individual project on. Then each
child gave a presentation on the information that they found out
so we all learned a little about each country. Some children made
models to accompany their projects and some children also brought
in some food from the country they had studied. We had great fun
from eating pizza and Cornetto’s from Italy to pickled onions
from Estonia!

We really love the poem 'The Highwayman'
by Alfred Noyes, (1880-1958). 'The wind
was a torrent of darkness upon the gusty trees,
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
The road was a ribbon of moonlight looping the purple moor,
And the highwayman came riding--
Riding--riding--
The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn door. '

After studying the poem, we wrote about
our reactions to it, and
were inspired to paint the highwayman.
